ADULT ACNE

Though we commonly associate acne with puberty-when our body has a surge of hormones as we enter young adulthood- unfortunately, breakouts occur well into adult years. Adult acne, or ‘post-adolescent acne’ is classified as pimples which occur after the age of 25.

According to Health Harvard, “The four factors that directly contribute to acne are: excess oil production, pores becoming clogged by “sticky” skin cells, bacteria, and inflammation.”

Many other things can cause adult acne on our face and body:

  • Hormones, stress, and in women, the menstrual cycle
  • Hair and skin products, or makeup which clogs the pores
  • Changes to our diet which cause inflammation
  • New in 2020, our beloved non-medical face masks!

When we get breakouts as an adult, they can be frustrating, embarrassing, and even painful. Our confidence in ourselves to be successful in our jobs or relationships may be affected. There are medications and home remedies which can help with adult acne, but at Skinfidelity, we believe in the proven power of Chemical Peels

We use salicylic chemical peels. Salicylic acid is one of the top choices of skin care professionals to treat acne, and even prevent future breakouts.

Blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples occur which your hair follicles (commonly known as pores), become plugged by dead skin cells and oil. Salicylic acid works by penetrating into your skin and dissolving these unwanted dead skin cells.

We recommend applying retinol cream daily to maintain your complexion once your desired results are achieved. Retinol, a purified form of Vitamin A, is a popular ingredient in skincare products for many reasons. In regards to acne, retinoids work to unclog your pores to reduce pimples and prevent future outbreaks by speeding up cell-turn over. The less dead cell build-up the less your pores are prone to clogging. We carry SkinMedica Retinol 1%  [link to shop] but require all first time users to have a quick consultation either online or in-person to go over directions for use.

The next step towards a clear and smooth complexion once we help you treat adult acne is to repair acne scars through microneedling treatments.
