DOUBLE CHIN

As we age or fluctuate in our weight, we may notice the development of what is commonly called a ‘double chin’. It is nothing more than an excess of fat in the submental area of the chin. People with genetics prone to sagging skin or stubborn fat are more likely to develop a double chin. If we gain and loose weight, the expanding and contracting of our facial skin can cause this area to sag. Whatever the reason, a double chin is an unwanted feature which many feel self conscious about, because they feel it makes their face ‘look fat’.

The good news is, we offer treatments to significantly reduce the appearance of a double chin. We use injectable dermal fillers to add volume along the jawline which lifts the double chin. A slight increase in volume along the lower face can create more separation between the jawline and neck. This technique called facial contouring is a common medical spa treatment. We also offer a fat dissolving treatment called Belkyra (or Kybella) to treat double chins. Belkyra is deoxycholic acid- a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown of fat. This is one of the most highly anticipated products in cosmetic medicine. When injected in the fat below the chin, it destroys the fat cells, and ultimately, dissolves this unwanted fat.

 Results of Belkyra treatments vary between individuals, but it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to see the desired effects. You may also need more than one session to achieve your desired ‘before and after’ results. The best part is, once the fat is dissolved, you are set. It requires a lot less maintenance than other procedures.
