MOUTH LINES
One of the most profound dynamic wrinkles which naturally appear as we age are those deep lines around the mouth. It’s ironic- these lines are caused over time by repetitive facial expressions which often come from humorous or pleasing moments. ’Mouth lines’, ’Smile lines’, ‘Laugh lines’, whatever you wish to call them, these changes to our face can make many people feel they make them look older outside than they do inside.
Laugh lines consist of marionette lines and nasolabial folds. Marionette lines are the creases which go from the outside of the mouth down to the jawline on both sides of the chin. Derived from the Latin word ‘nasa’ for nose and ‘labia’ for lips, nasolabial folds go from the corners of the nose down to the outside of the lips.
As with other fine lines and wrinkles, when we age, we experience a reduction in collagen and elastin production, which are the proteins which give our skin the plump and youthful glow. When our skin loses volume it begins to sag and create more prominent and permanent creases.
Smoothing out these lines is very much possible with the treatment of soft tissue fillers. We have several FDA approved injectables which plump up and volumize mouth lines. Hyaluronic acid injectables are one of our most common choices, as it is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies, effective for all skin types and tones. These treatments can last up to a year, depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
During your consultation at Skinfidelity, we will determine what type of filler treatment are best suited for your desired and natural looking results. Sometimes filler may not be the answer for rejuvenating the peri-oral (mouth) area and we may recommend other skin resurfacing treatments.
