Dark marks after breakouts
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or PIH, is the flat brown or dark mark left behind after a pimple, rash, bite, burn or irritation has healed. It is very common in medium and deeper skin tones, where skin responds to inflammation by making extra pigment.
PIH needs a careful approach, because aggressive treatments can trigger more pigment. We favour gentle, proven options such as SkinPen microneedling, a Green Peel and targeted medical-grade skin care, all suitable for melanin-rich skin.

Good questions
Will PIH fade on its own?
It can, but it often takes many months or longer. Treatment speeds up fading and helps prevent new marks.
Is laser safe for PIH?
Some lasers can make pigment worse in deeper skin tones. We only recommend laser when it is a safe and suitable choice for your skin.
Is there downtime?
Expect redness similar to a mild sunburn for one to three days. Most clients return to work the next day, and makeup can usually be worn after 24 hours.
