If your lips don't feel like yours anymore, you're not alone, and there's no judgment here. Lips that look overfilled, lumpy, uneven or puffy above the border are one of the most common reasons people come to us for a correction consultation, very often after treatment somewhere else. The good news is that most lip filler is hyaluronic acid, which means there is usually a path back to soft, natural lips. Here's how we approach it.
Correcting lips is just as much of an art as injecting them in the first place. Every step matters.
Signs Your Lip Filler Needs a Second Look
- Lips that look bigger than you asked for, or bigger than your face can carry
- A "shelf" or "duck" profile, where the upper lip sticks out instead of sloping gently
- Fullness creeping above the lip border, often called a filler moustache
- Lumps you can feel or see, especially when you smile
- One side noticeably fuller than the other
- A blurred lip line or loss of your natural Cupid's bow
Some swelling and unevenness is normal for the first one to two weeks after filler. If things still don't look or feel right once you've healed, it's worth having them assessed.
Why Lips End Up Overfilled
Filler doesn't have a mind of its own. When lips go wrong, it's usually down to a mix of factors: too much product, a product that isn't suited to the lips, placement that doesn't respect lip anatomy, or frequent top-ups that build on each other over the years. Hyaluronic acid filler can also last longer in the body than many people expect, so "just a little more" every few months can quietly add up. You can read more in our guide to filler migration.
How We Correct Botched Lips
Every correction starts with a conversation and a careful look at your lips at rest, when you talk and when you smile. We'll ask what was used, when, and how much, if you know. Then we build a plan, which often looks like this:
- Assessment: we map where the filler is sitting and what's causing the shape you don't like.
- Dissolving: if it's hyaluronic acid filler, we use an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down filler where it doesn't belong. Sometimes we dissolve everything for a fresh start; sometimes only the migrated or lumpy areas.
- Settling: lips need time to heal and settle before anything new is added.
- Rebuild, only if you want: when you're ready, we can restore shape with a lighter, anatomy-led approach that respects your natural lip proportions.
Correction is rarely about one appointment. Previously overfilled lips can stretch, and migration risk is higher in lips that have been botched before, so we take our time and do each step properly. Learn more about the dissolving step in what to expect when dissolving filler.
Our Approach: Artistry, Anatomy, Balance
Beautiful lips aren't about size. They're about how your lips sit with your nose, chin and smile. When we rebuild, we use the least product needed and sometimes look beyond the lips altogether, at the chin or the corners of the mouth, as part of facial balancing. Our lip filler guide explains the philosophy in more detail, and our lip injections page covers treatment options.
For more on how we fix filler, including cheeks and under-eyes, see our dedicated filler correction page. If you'd like other treatments reviewed too, such as wrinkle-relaxing injections or fat dissolving, our aesthetic corrections page covers every kind of correction.
Why Clients Choose SKINFIDELITY for Corrections
SKINFIDELITY was founded by Master Nurse Injector Shelby Hall, and corrective work has shaped how carefully we treat every client. We look at the whole face, respect your anatomy and build gradually. We'd always rather do a little less and review than take away what makes your face yours. And if we don't think a treatment will help you, we'll say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can botched lip filler be fixed?
In many cases, yes. Most lip fillers are hyaluronic acid, which can usually be broken down with hyaluronidase. We'll assess your lips first and talk through a plan that suits you.
Do I have to dissolve all of my lip filler?
Not always. Sometimes only the migrated or lumpy areas need dissolving. In other cases a full reset gives the most natural result. We'll explain why we recommend one or the other.
How long after dissolving can I get lip filler again?
We like the lips to fully settle first, usually at least a couple of weeks, and sometimes longer. Your injector will recommend timing at your follow-up.
Will my lips go back to how they were before filler?
Many clients are happy to see their natural shape return, but lips that were overfilled for a long time may have stretched. We'll set realistic expectations at your assessment.
Do you correct lip filler done at another clinic?
Yes. Much of our corrective work is for clients treated elsewhere, and there's never any judgment. Bring whatever details you have about your previous treatment.
