A surgical scar can be a reminder of something important, whether that's a C-section, an operation or a recovery you worked hard for. Still, it's completely understandable to want it to look and feel softer. While no treatment can erase a scar, many scars can be made less noticeable with the right approach and a little patience. Here's how we think about surgical scars at SKINFIDELITY.
Scars deserve a gentle, personal approach. We treat the scar, and the story behind it, with care.
Timing: Let the Scar Mature First
Scars keep changing for many months after surgery. We generally want a scar to be fully closed and mature before treatment, which often means waiting several months or more, and we always follow your surgeon's advice first. Starting at the right time gives your skin the best chance to respond.
Treatments That May Help
Every scar is different, so your plan depends on whether the scar is raised, sunken, tight or discoloured, and where it is. Options we may discuss include:
- SkinPen microneedling: creates tiny controlled channels in the skin to stimulate fresh collagen, which can help a scar blend better with the surrounding skin. Usually a series of sessions spaced weeks apart. Available at both our Mississauga and Kleinburg clinics.
- Skin boosters: can add hydration and flexibility to thin or tight scars.
- Laser scar treatment with the Elite iQ: can help with redness, discolouration and texture. Laser treatments are offered at our Mississauga clinic only.
Often a combination works better than any one treatment alone. Our surgical and traumatic scar treatment page explains this in more detail.
What to Expect
Most scars need several sessions, usually spaced four to six weeks apart, and improvement is gradual. With microneedling, expect redness similar to a mild sunburn for a day or two. We'll talk about realistic goals at your consultation: softer, smoother and less noticeable, not gone.
When a Scar Needs Another Specialist
Some scars aren't right for in-clinic treatment. Keloid scars, very raised or thick scars, scars that are painful, itchy or still changing quickly, or scars that pull and restrict movement may need a physician's or surgeon's care. If that's the case, we'll tell you honestly and recommend a referral, ideally back to your surgeon.
Scars After Cosmetic Surgery
If your scars are from liposuction or another cosmetic procedure, the same principles apply. Read our post on liposuction irregularities for more, or see our aesthetic corrections page for the bigger picture. For acne scarring, visit our acne scars page.
Why Clients Choose SKINFIDELITY for Corrections
SKINFIDELITY was founded by Master Nurse Injector Shelby Hall, and corrective work has shaped how carefully we treat every client. We look at the whole face, respect your anatomy and build gradually. We'd always rather do a little less and review than take away what makes your face yours. And if we don't think a treatment will help you, we'll say so.

Frequently Asked Questions
How soon after surgery can I treat my scar?
Usually once it's fully closed and matured, often several months or more after surgery. Your surgeon's advice comes first.
Can a surgical scar be removed completely?
No treatment can erase a scar, but many scars can be softened and made less noticeable over a series of sessions.
Which treatment is best for my scar?
It depends on the scar's type, colour, texture and location. We'll recommend a plan after assessing it in person.
Is laser scar treatment available at both clinics?
No. Laser treatments are offered at our Mississauga clinic only. SkinPen microneedling and skin boosters are available at both our Mississauga and Kleinburg clinics.
Can you treat keloid scars?
Keloids and very raised scars usually need a different approach. We'll assess the scar and refer you to a physician if needed.
