Liposuction Irregularities: Dents, Lumps and Uneven Contours Explained

Liposuction can leave some people with results that don't look as smooth as they hoped: a dent here, a lump there, or one side that looks different from the other. If that's you, you're not alone, and there's no judgment here. The most important first step is understanding what's actually causing the irregularity, because the right next step depends entirely on that.

Correction starts with an honest question: is this fat, skin, scar tissue or a missing volume? The answer decides the plan.

Give Your Body Time to Heal

Swelling after liposuction can take months to fully settle, and areas can feel firm or lumpy during that time. Many early irregularities improve as you heal. We generally want you to be fully healed and cleared by your surgeon before we assess you, and if you're still in your recovery period, your surgeon should be your first call.

Common Types of Irregularities

  • Residual pockets of fat: small soft areas where some fat remains
  • Dents or depressions: areas where more fat was removed, leaving a hollow
  • Firm lumps or ridges: often related to healing tissue or scar tissue under the skin
  • Loose or crepey skin: skin that hasn't retracted as hoped
  • Visible incision scars

What Non-Surgical Care May Help

Depending on the cause, options we may discuss include:

When a Surgical Referral Is the Right Step

Some irregularities are beyond what non-surgical treatments can do. Dents from over-resection, firm scar tissue or fibrosis, significant loose skin and larger contour deformities usually need a plastic surgeon's assessment. If that's what we see, we'll tell you honestly and recommend a referral, ideally to the surgeon who performed your procedure. We'd much rather point you in the right direction than offer a treatment that can't help.

Our Approach

We assess the area standing, sitting and in different positions, ask about your surgery and recovery, and talk through your goals. Then we recommend only what we believe will genuinely help, which might be a small, staged plan, a different treatment, or no treatment at all. Why Clients Choose SKINFIDELITY for Corrections

SKINFIDELITY was founded by Master Nurse Injector Shelby Hall, and corrective work has shaped how carefully we treat every client. We look at the whole face, respect your anatomy and build gradually. We'd always rather do a little less and review than take away what makes your face yours. And if we don't think a treatment will help you, we'll say so.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can lumps after liposuction go away on their own?

Many early lumps and firm areas improve as swelling settles, which can take months. Wait until you're fully healed and cleared by your surgeon before deciding on treatment.

Can fat-dissolving injections fix dents after lipo?

No. Fat dissolving may help small residual pockets of fat, but it can't fill dents or hollows. Those usually need a surgeon's assessment.

What can help loose skin after liposuction?

Mild laxity may improve with SkinPen microneedling (both clinics) or laser skin tightening (Mississauga only). Significant loose skin usually needs a surgical opinion.

Do you treat liposuction scars?

Yes, once scars have matured. Options may include SkinPen microneedling and skin boosters (both clinics) and laser (Mississauga only).

Should I see my surgeon first?

If you're still recovering, yes. Your surgeon knows your procedure best, and we're happy to work alongside their advice.
